Course Descriptions
Winter / Spring 2012 January - May
Let’s Dance: Creative movement, designed to explore the young dancer’s expressions and musicality in a cooperative and supportive atmosphere. Recommended ages 3-5.
Pre-Ballet: Introduces classical ballet, develops coordination, and creates musical awareness.
Ballet A, B, C, D: Training and development of classical ballet technique through proper alignment, and stretching/strengthening of the body and its muscles during barre and centre work. Pointe offered in Levels C and D to dancers meeting the appropriate developmental requirements deemed important by the instructor and
committed to taking at least 3 ballet classes per week.
Choreography Workshop: Upper level dancers will learn the basic elements of choreography and how to work as an ensemble, while exploring their creativity by choosing their own music and choreographing to it to create a finished ensemble piece ready to perform.
Irish Step: Basic Irish Dancing, concentrating on Irish jigs and reels and adding horn pipes and slip Jigs in the upper levels. Irish Step Hard Shoe is included in the Intermediate and Advanced levels. Hard shoes are required.
Recommended ages 5-adult, subject to teacher’s discretion.
Jazz Level I: Tailored for beginner dancers that want to learn and strengthen their skills. An upbeat jazz class with a twist of funk. Get ready to move to the beat and work up a sweat. Recommended ages 7 and up.
Jazz Level II: Encourages freedom of movement that comes from a firm technical foundation. A fusion of lyrical, funk, theatre and more. Prior ballet training is helpful. Recommended ages 7-adult with prior dance training.
Hip Hop: A class for people to let loose and have fun while listening to the newest and hottest tunes. Beginning with a warm-up of isolations, stretching and toning, then moving into funky choreography. Recommended ages 12 and up, subject to teacher’s discretion.
